About me.
This is my website for now, but I'm considering moving to Substack in the near future. It's more work, but hey, life is like that.
I've been writing and editing full-time for longer than I care to admit. I'm writing a novel for the first time in a long time. I've never written this kind of book before, but I'm hoping someone is going to like it. Maybe even love it? I want to change the world. Who doesn't, right? Now that my Twitter dream of a blue check mark has been dashed, here's my response. |
FAQ.
Ask me stuff. I'll put my fave questions and answers right here.
What interests you when writing fiction?
I have a really hard time finding books I love. I need just the right combination of lovely, well-written prose, a compelling story and surprises. I like magic, but only a little magic. I feel like I'm looking for the perfect book every time I go looking for one. So that's what I want to write, too. That book. The one that if I found it on the shelf, I'd go, YES! Oh my god, this is it. A little weird, a little beautiful, a little can't put it down, a little oh no she didn't. What's not to like?

Is it true you're a direct descendant of Tatiana, the Fairy Queen?
If I am, it has been kept a secret from me my entire life. It would explain a few things, though.

What's your favorite thing to read when you're not editing?
I can't say that I have one specific thing that I love to read. I'm like the weather. Wait ten minutes and I'll like something different. I like novelty.

Do you like Hammocks? What's your favo/u/rite fruit? Can you curl your tongue? Have you ever seen a ghost? What's your PIN?
I thought I'd like hammocks, but it turns out they are not very comfortable. The ropes dig in. My favorite fruit is cherry. I can curl my tongue. That's a genetic trait, which is kind of weird and awesome. Have I ever seen a ghost? Yes. I think I have. Two ghosts, actually. They were two girls, identical. I thought at first they were someone's legs coming down the basement stairs, until they got down there far enough that their heads were visible. A few seconds later they were gone. My PIN is ... waitaminnit!

Which is more important to you: book sales or critical acclaim?
I prefer reader acclaim. I mean, I want people who might read my writing to like it. But critical acclaim is nice. Sales sort of speaks to reader acclaim. If you squint at it. Ask me this after a glass of absinthe. I don't know who has to drink it, you or me. One of us.
